N.Flying’s &CON4 in Singapore: When a Decade of Music Comes Full Circle

Walking into N.Flying‘s concert venue at The Theatre at Mediacorp, I was immediately struck by the sea of purple. N.Fias (N.Flying’s fandom name) had dutifully followed the purple dress code, while I’d missed the memo entirely and showed up in black. At this point, I have to admit that I attended the concert as a casual listener to N.Flying’s discography, but I definitely left with a genuine appreciation for what makes their music resonate deeply with fans over the last decade.

The Sound of a Decade Perfected

N.Flying opened their concert in Singapore with a powerful sequence: ‘Shooting Star’, ‘Moonshot’, and ‘Blue Moon’, immediately setting the tone for the evening. Throughout the setlist, individual members were given space to showcase their instrumental mastery, Jaehyun’s epic drum skills, Hun’s expressive guitar solos, and Dongsung’s bass lines each received their moment in the spotlight.

I personally felt that “Run Like This” had the best energy from both the band and fans. There’s a particular kind of energy that emerges when a band and their audience are on the same wavelength, and this was it. The enthusiasm radiating from both stage and crowd was a clear testament to how much fun everyone had that evening.

Building Bridges Through Language and Laughter

Jaehyun speaking in English and Seunghyub peppering his speech with ‘jiatlat’ throughout the night certainly drew laughs from the crowd, but it also created a sense of shared understanding. Even their impromptu beatboxing demonstration, pulling from skills they’d learned in school, felt less like planned entertainment and more like friends sharing hidden talents at a gathering.

The Encores That Redefined Fan Service

What really impressed me was how dedicated the band and fans were when it came to the encore. The members returned for the encore dressed in their &CON4 tour shirts and launched straight into “E-YO”, kicking off what would become an encore that refused to end. The band went above and beyond the planned setlist: “Rooftop”, “Songbird”, and performed more songs with each one feeling like a gift that keeps on giving.

After what felt like an endless encore, the surprise video by fans turned the mood slightly emotional as the members said their goodbyes. One thing that stood out to me the most in their goodbye speech was their declaration to perform until they’re 80 years old. Apparently, this is a frequent promise and goal by the band to continue performing together until they reach that age, and it was heartwarming to hear.

From lighthearted banters to sincere, emotional moments, the whole concert felt like a lively, comforting memory for N.Fias in Singapore that will probably last for a long time!
